The recognition that forests should be managed on a sustainable basis is one of the cornerstones of forest management at ORM. Comprehensive plans lay out the vision and goals of management and describe how planned activities will help achieve those goals.
Comprehensive plans include a harvest schedule, but they are much more than that. They include an evaluation of timber and non-timber resources within ecological, economic, and social contexts. Such plans document current forest characteristics and describe the desired conditions for the forest in the future.
ORM staff has helped develop comprehensive forest plans for many different owners including plans for both Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified owners.
